Frequently asked questions
Does it work for biweekly pay periods?
Yes. You can set the period to weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly. For biweekly pay, the tool applies the federal 40-hour weekly threshold per workweek (not an 80-hour biweekly threshold), which follows FLSA.
How do I calculate overtime on a time card?
Overtime is usually 1.5× your rate for hours over 40 in a workweek (federal FLSA). Some states also pay daily overtime — for example, California pays 1.5× after 8 hours in a day and 2× after 12. This tool applies both daily and weekly thresholds and shows you the larger of the two.
Is this calculator accurate? Is it legal or tax advice?
Results are estimates for reference only. We aim for FLSA- and state-rule accuracy, but we do not guarantee the figure is correct for your situation, and this is not tax, legal, or employment advice. Always confirm with your employer's payroll and your state labor law.
